long sleeve raglan sweatshirt | free sewing pattern
I'grand so over winter. Simply over it. But unfortunately, information technology's nowhere about done yet. Since I have at least some other month or 2 of snow to slog through, I idea I might also make a new sweatshirt with this cute floral ponte I ordered forever ago from Girl Charlee (looks like it's no longer in stock). I used my raglan sleeve easy tee pattern with a few simple alterations and had a new sweatshirt put together in just over an hr.
I'thou kind of wishing I'd made the sleeves black since the all over floral might be a bit much, merely oh well, proficient enough!
How to brand a raglan sleeve sweatshirt:
First by downloading the free raglan sleeve like shooting fish in a barrel tee pattern found here. Be sure to impress it out at 100% or full size, and make sure the test square measures exactly ane inch by 1 inch. Butt the pieces together (don't overlap), and record, then cut out the pattern.
If you've never made a raglan before, you'll want to read through this mail first for details on how to stitch one together (it will also teach you how to draft your own blueprint if you don't wear size L). You'll demand nearly a yard and a half of 55-sixty inch broad knit material – become for a heavier weight if y'all want it to look like a sweatshirt, or a lighter weight for a long sleeve raglan tee.
Cut two shirt pieces, both on the fold, one using the front end neckline and one using the dorsum neckline. Since my knit was not super stretchy and I wanted a relaxed fit, I added about an inch to the sides of the shirt at the bottom as I cutting it out. I as well shortened it slightly because I knew I would add together a hem ring.
I didn't want divide front and dorsum sleeve pieces for this sweatshirt, so I simply lined the border of the sleeve piece up on the fold, as you tin can see below–the edge of the pattern piece isn't perfectly straight but I but lined it upwardly as well every bit I could. I added about 5 inches of length to the iii/four sleeve pattern to make a long sleeve (too every bit a sleeve gage, which I'll talk about later).
Cut the sleeves on the fold, using the back neckline. Then open each sleeve up and cutting the front neckline on one half of each sleeve (make sure they are mirror images!) The epitome beneath shows what this ends up looking like.
And so yous tin can sew your sleeve pieces to the principal pieces as described in this mail. Run up up the arms and down the side seams too.
At this bespeak you have two choices: y'all tin hem the sleeves and bottom of the shirt, or you can add sleeve cuffs and a hem ring. I chose to do the latter to give it a more than traditional sweatshirt wait. Read this post for instructions on how to add sleeve cuffs and a hem ring.
That same post too has info on how to finish the neckline.
Done. New sweatshirt. Time to get shovel some more snow….and wish it was April.
